Accreditation is the external evaluation of a university's quality and standards on a national level. The aim of accreditation is to ensure that the university meets national standards and that high-quality education is being provided. It is an important quality assurance tool, as it guarantees to students that studying at the given higher education institution will be worth both their time and money.
Depending on the country, accreditation can be carried out differently, but it is usually done on a national level by the Ministry of Education. However, it can also be done by independent accrediting agencies that have been approved by the government or other relevant organisations.
Verifying whether a university is accredited can be confusing and time-consuming. It involves either finding the university’s relevant pages, usually named “Certification” or “Quality Assurance”, or checking directly with one of the many accreditation bodies. However, for aspiring medicine, dental medicine, pharmacy, and veterinary students, we have already done that work for you!
Full details on the application and inspection process are outlined in the what is involved section.
When you are ready, you can also email the enquiry form below to accrediation@iache.org or you can upload directly in our page Apply and Pay or You can also apply through our Quick Apply Window .
One of the Iache team will contact you to discuss accreditation.
If successfully granted, IACHE Accreditation lasts for four years from the date of award. Subsequent Annual Fees are payable each year on the date of the Initial Fee. (Specific circumstances may vary.)
Recognition refers to the acknowledgement of college/institute degrees or qualifications on an international University level. The goal of recognition is to confirm that higher education institutions or programmes meet University standards and are recognised and respected in other countries.
Recognition is an essential criterion for evaluating the performance of colleges, as it guarantees that you will receive an internationally recognised degrees upon graduation. It provides assurance to students that their degree will be accepted by other universities, organisations, and employers alike.
1. It gives credibility, respect, and prestige to the programmes and recognition to anounce and award Doctoral (PhD) degrees and
Universities that pursue accreditation demonstrate their devotion to providing high-quality education, as well as their commitment to excellence. Accredited higher education institutions attract many more students and faculty, as they have achieved the proper certification and have met the requirements for quality and effectiveness.
2. Proof of meeting quality criteria
Another benefit is that accreditation ensures that universities and their programmes meet particular quality criteria. It serves as a valuable stamp of approval, both for the university and for the students who are studying there. This is especially helpful in today's world, where the job market is becoming increasingly competitive, and employers seek candidates with a solid educational background. Accreditation is a valuable indicator of excellence, ensuring that graduates of accredited programmes are prepared to enter the workforce and make positive contributions to society.
3. Validate the university credits of students
The third essential advantage is that accredited universities that meet all the criteria can provide students with the ability to transfer to a different university while making sure that their hard-earned credits carry over. This is extremely valuable to students who wish to gain knowledge and experience from different higher education institutions and curricula.
4. Promotes transparency
Lastly, accreditation promotes transparency, as it is carried out by external organisations that are unaffiliated with any university. Accrediting bodies can hold higher education institutions accountable for not providing adequate education and not adhering to standards. This would directly result in a failure to earn accreditation. On the bright side, if a university fails to get accredited, they are told which areas need improvement so that they may develop and achieve success next time
Many methods for quality control and accreditation in higher education are in use. Due to the great diversity of educational institutions and their missions, the same set of standards cannot fit all institutions. However, an institution or program can show (in more ways than one) that it has established sound goals and objectives, developed an effective strategy for achieving them, provided adequate educational resources for the task, and it possesses the means of measuring the success of educational outcomes. Quality Assurance and Quality Control involve a set of procedures conducted by an academic institution or department to ensure that programs meet their prescribed criteria and the needs of its stakeholders, including current and prospective students, parents, teachers, and employers. These are usually internal processes that are conducted on a regular basis. Some tasks include deciding which specific standards the educational programs or service must meet, determining the extent of quality control actions, collecting real-world data, and conducting periodic evaluations of outcomes against the objectives and goals of the program.
The self study is the foundation of most accreditation processes, and is conducted by the program itself (though some programs have been known to hire external consultants for help). The self study is often the most important outcome of the overall accreditation process, as it provides a thorough insider view of all aspects of the educational program, services, and facilities. This view is the best basis for addressing quality issues. The self-study involves a comprehensive data collection and data analysis of the educational offerings, curricula, facilities, faculty, staff, budgets and other resources, infrastructure, the student body and the school’s environment. The self-study report must be completed before the accreditation visit can begin, and it serves the external evaluation team to guide its activities and queries. Moreover, the self study document is used by the evaluators to communicate with the program prior to the visit in order to review specific issues and address evaluator observations and questions.
The on-site visit typically lasts 2-3 days and focuses on issues that cannot be directly learned from the self-study – such as the way facilities are organized and their state of maintenance, morale of students and faculty, and samples of student work in various courses. At the end of the visit, the team usually provides the program with a preliminary report of its findings and conclusions.
There is considerable correspondence between the program and the accrediting body after the visit. This correspondence includes drafts of team evaluation of the program, and information from the program on activities taken after the visit to address matters raised through the preliminary findings. The process concludes by a formal action by the accrediting body. Such action may range from a decision not to accredit the program to a decision to accredit the program for the maximum period allowed by the accrediting body’s standards. Between these two extremes there may be requests for written attestation by the evaluated program that certain issues were addressed, or an interim visit may be arranged to ascertain that identified problems were rectified. Some accrediting bodies would not revoke the accreditation of a previously-accredited program until an additional detailed process of re-evaluation was conducted over a period of time.
